Mecca: A severe heatwave in Mecca has led to the tragic deaths of six pilgrims from Gujarat during this year’s Hajj. The pilgrims succumbed to the extreme temperatures while performing the annual Islamic pilgrimage. Among the deceased is Ikbal Ahmed Makrani (75), a retired government teacher who traveled with his wife, Sugrabibi (67), to Jeddah on May 31. Their son, Moin (36), who had accompanied his siblings to drop their parents off in Mumbai, last spoke with the couple on June 12, the day Ikbal passed away.
